A Chat With The Australian Financial Review About The Rise of Microcredentials

Had a chat with The Australian Financial Review about the rise of microcredentials – with a focus on the microcredentials I am coordinating for Bond University, The Breakthrough Lawyer Program. There are 3 online, short, microcredentials featuring teachings from more than 50 global business & legal leaders:

1. GenAI Productivity Training for Lawyers
2. Legal Innovation Bootcamp
3. High Performance Habits of Successful Lawyers

The feedback has been exceptional.

“I highly recommend the Generative AI course component of the Breakthrough Lawyer Program.  The content provided me with detailed insights and learnings regarding GenAI.  My team and I enjoyed working through the course material together”
Martin English, General Counsel, Essential Energy

We are seeing leaders investing in the courses for their teams – we have had a group of 50 and a group of 25 sign up in the last week. And we are seeing interest from offshore – with US and UK lawyers signing up – as the content is not jurisdiction specific.

There is a EOFY 20% discount on the courses if you register before 30 June.

The Breakthrough Lawyer Program is the brainchild of Norton Rose Fulbright’s global co-leader, digital transformation practice, Nick Abrahams. He is also the co-founder of online legal business Lawpath and is a Bond University adjunct professor.

“The idea behind the course is to make lawyers better legal leaders and innovators. It’s about becoming better in your role,” says Abrahams.

The Program’s format has been part of their success. This series of three microcredentials is available through Bond University’s website.

Students can start any time and study at their own pace. The three courses cost between $450 and $750 each. They cover AI and productivity, legal innovation and high-performance habits. “The self-guided, online nature of the courses work well. Time-poor lawyers get the information they need in six to 12 hours, depending on the course,” says Abrahams.

“For some in-house legal teams and law firms, we are seeing the Breakthrough Lawyer Courses become key elements of their training program for high-potential lawyers.”

Abrahams says lawyers have taken to the program because it’s designed by working lawyers and includes insights from more than 50 global legal and business leaders.

“Lawyers can be dismissive of educators or trainers who are not lawyers,” he says. “I have seen some real car wrecks where non-lawyers try to coach or teach lawyers, especially in subjects like innovation. Lawyers’ eyes roll back at the sound of the first buzz word.

“The attraction of the Breakthrough Lawyer Program is the opportunity to learn from the best and brightest legal and business minds working around the world.”
